You’re running your first marathon. You’ve been training for months and today is the big day. The sun is shining and you’re ready to get running.
Ten minutes in, someone drops out. Twenty minutes in another three people drop out. By the halfway point, the sun is really beating down and the organisers are considering putting a stop to things. When you reach the finish line, only the experienced marathon runners are still in the race. How long did it take you to complete the marathon?
You didn’t. You aren’t an experienced runner so you dropped out with everyone else, but you drove to the finish line to cheer for your more experienced friends.
